Things I Did Not Anticipate Worrying About After Becoming A Parent.

Before becoming a parent I knew I was going to have some worries or anxieties in my day to day life because that just comes with being a parent. Well, here are the top ten things I DID NOT anticipate I would be worrying about after becoming a mom.

Let me know if you can relate!

As a mom, I now worry about:

  1. My child wanting to drink out of every single type of glass bottle, plastic bottle, yeti tumbler, stanley tumbler, coffee mug, etc that I am drinking from. You name it, if I am drinking out of it she HAS to be either drinking from mine or have the exact same thing. She has all the cute kid water bottles there are on the market yet she only wants to BACKWASH into all of my drinking vessels. Love that for me.

  2. Poop streaks on my couch. I should have seen this one coming…but I truly didn’t. I knew potty training would be tough but…my poor couch. TMI. Don’t worry I was deep cleaning that thing at least once a day while potty training. We’re on the up and up now but that was a doozy. (My couch is clean I promise).

  3. Whether or not all of my foundation has been squeezed out of the tube because I left my makeup drawer open again. (Sorry dads, this one might be a little hard to relate). Maybe for dads, how much of your deodorant stick have been shaved off with those little grimey fingers.

  4. Hiding my face while I am straight up eating last night’s leftover brownies for breakfast before my toddler enters the kitchen and sees the crime I am committing.

  5. Running late while trying to get ready, prepping exactly which shoes I’m going to wear ahead of time to shave off a few seconds …only to find out there is only one shoe in my closet and the second is NOWHERE to be found. No, like, nowhere. Toddlers are darn good hide and seekers when it comes to shoes and just things we need in general. They can’t hide themselves to save their life but darn it, you’ll be looking for that black rubber spatula for YEARS.

  6. Speaking of cooking utensils, I also worry about having two of every cooking utensil because the second I start to use it, my toddler is scooooootching her “stand-up-tower” right alongside me and demanding to use the exact utensil I have in my hand.

  7. HER ATTITUDE. I mean, I knew toddlers/children have some sass, but this girl’s sass is next level. This girl has not a single one of my physical attributes but I do have to admit, she took my attitude and ran with it!

  8. Worrying about the meltdown that will occur if another kid touches her favorite stuffy that I find myself hiding them when other kids come to play. I know, I know, this does not teach her any valuable lessons, but I don't’ care! I am avoiding WWIII at any cost and if that means hiding a few toys, I’m doin’ it!

  9. This one is more of a serious one but I did not realize I would be so worried about my daughter hugging other people. By that I mean, my people-pleasingness is back to haunt me. I literally want her to hug our family members (I’m fine with her not hugging others) so they feel good and that is SO WRONG! I know how wrong that is and I’m doing my best to let her choose who to hug and when to hug them because I know that is her body and her decision to make. But I just did not expect to worry about that so dang much!

  10. Okay, last but not least, I did not expect to worry so much about her knocking down every single item on the shelves at our local drug store. Seriously, anyone in my hometown HAS to know what I mean. I mean, everything is eye level for them and it’s so enticing. The whole time I’m in there I’m repeating, “please don’t touch, that’s not for touching, please stop” over and over again! I should record it and play it each time just to save my breath.

  11. I needed to add one more. I did not expect to be too concerned about every little thing I do and how it will affect my child. I swear I speed over the speed limit 2 mph and I’m worried she’s learning bad habits about my driving. A little exaggerated, but you get my point. Some days it’s so exhausting!

But what I am sure of is if we are giving our full effort each day (sometimes that’s operating at 30% and that’s okay!) I’m pretty sure our kiddos will be just fine. Let’s just pat ourselves on the back because we fed, clothed, and loved our children today and that is enough!

Alright, well there you have it! Those are the top eleven things I did not expect to worry about after becoming a parent. There’s plenty more but we’ll save that for another day. But seriously, if you fed, clothed, and loved your child today, you’re doing something right. Keep trucking along.
